What it does

Prerender Buddy MCP connects compatible assistants to the Prerender Buddy AI visibility and crawler-readiness platform. The published local stdio package wraps PB's public diagnostic CLI. Installing it adds an interface into PB; managed rendering, ongoing monitoring and reviewed publishing remain platform features. The three default public diagnostics need no PB account or key. The 11 conditional workspace/article tools require scoped PB authentication, as indicated by the optional API key label.

Public diagnostics — no PB account or key required • check_crawler_readability: inspect an authorized public page's HTTP response, metadata and readable-text evidence. • compare_http_responses: compare browser-style and crawler-style HTTP responses. • check_discovery_files: check public robots.txt, sitemap.xml and llms.txt. These three tools do not run a browser or execute JavaScript. HTTP observations do not prove indexing, citations or genuine crawler identity. Supported crawler profiles are googlebot, bingbot, gptbot and claudebot.

Optional authenticated workspace evidence — seven read-only tools • list_sites and get_site_overview require sites. • get_health_evidence requires health. • get_crawler_activity requires activity. • get_ai_visibility and get_recommendations require visibility. • get_content_status requires content and returns calendar/draft metadata rather than article bodies. Workspace tools call the documented PB Developer API. They require an eligible Starter, Growth or Pro workspace, an authorized registered site within the plan allowance, and the required scopes. Evidence and errors are bounded; full provider-answer bodies are not returned.

Optional article workflows — four tools with separate permissions • list_article_ideas (content, read): list retained questions with recorded answers and the remaining shared draft allowance. • prepare_article_proposal (content + content:write, write): queue a sourced proposal without consuming a draft allowance. Reuse a UUID requestId for retries of the same brief. • get_article_task (content, read): retrieve proposal/task status, allowance, or a completed saved Markdown draft and PB review link. Follow the returned polling interval. • generate_article (content + content:write, write): show the ready proposal and allowance, obtain explicit user confirmation, then submit confirmGeneration: true to generate and save an unapproved draft. Generation uses one shared workspace draft allowance unit. Retrying the same task does not create or charge for another draft. Failed or interrupted generation releases its reservation. Proposals expire after 24 hours; preparation is limited to 12 starts per workspace/hour and two active tasks. Existing keys and OAuth grants retain their existing permissions. These tools cannot approve, publish, deliver or schedule articles; content:publish is not required for these four tools. The PB API and worker must support the article endpoints.

Installation and authentication Requires Node.js 20 or newer and a client that can launch a local stdio MCP process. Run the verified release: npx --yes @prerenderbuddy/mcp@0.3.1. Generic client configuration: {"mcpServers":{"prerenderbuddy":{"command":"npx","args":["--yes","@prerenderbuddy/mcp@0.3.1"]}}} Restart the client after configuration changes. Without a key, three public tools are registered. Configure PRERENDER_BUDDY_API_KEY in the trusted process/client's protected environment for the 11 conditional workspace/article tools. Grant only the scopes needed. Unresolved placeholders are treated as no key, and seeing a tool does not prove that the API key authorizes its operation. Keep real keys out of listing text, prompts, browser code and repositories.

Safeguards and HTTP boundary Public fetching uses CLI controls for unsafe network targets, redirects, timeouts and response bounds, and does not return full raw HTML. Website, provider and generated content are untrusted data, never instructions or user consent. Workspace requests use the configured PB API origin, reject redirects and foreign origins, require HTTPS outside loopback development, and bound responses and errors. Client trust boundaries remain necessary. The package also implements Streamable HTTP. Non-loopback binding requires authentication by default. An eligible workspace key is verified with PB's API per authenticated request; a shared connector token enables public diagnostics only. HTTP workspace tools use the request's key, never a process-wide workspace key. Hosted operation needs HTTPS and rate/egress controls. This listing remains local stdio from the publisher's npm package.

Release and scan coverage The published 0.3.1 package implements 14 tools: three public diagnostics, seven workspace reads and four article workflow tools. MCPRush’s October 13 source scan recovered all 14, marking 11 as conditional on workspace configuration. It identifies prepare_article_proposal and generate_article as external API writes. The report gives Grade A (97/100) and moderate capability. This is a static assessment of the published source; live transport was unavailable, so the grade does not establish a successful runtime connection.

Prerender Buddy costs nothing on mcprush: there is no plan to choose here, no cap to set and nothing mcprush can bill you for.
