What it does

Comparable-backed market price context for appraisers and adjusters. Anchored on realised sold prices when ≥minimum_comps trim-matched sold-90d comps exist; active-listing quartile distribution is the fallback. Three workflows — single-VIN price check (dual-channel ML prediction, sold-anchor or quartile value range, 8-column comparable citation table, CPO premium and state baseline when applicable); trade-in VIN price history (listing trajectory, dealer-hop / sharp-drop / decertified flags, optional fair-value); model-level market distribution (price/mileage/DOM stats, cheapest 8 +…

What this skill changes about the agent has not been set out here as a list. Its SKILL.md, shown below, says it in the author’s own words.

The skill itself

A skill is instructions the model reads, so you can see what you are getting: below is the start of its SKILL.md. The front matter loads with every session, the body loads when the skill triggers, and the whole file comes with the install.

7# Competitive Pricer — Market Price Context for Appraisals
8
9Given a VIN (or year-make-model-trim) and optionally an asking price, anchor a defensible value range on the local market using ML prediction + active comps + sold-90d realised prices, then surface the comparable citation table the appraiser can attach to their workpaper. The value range is anchored on realised sold prices when ≥minimum_comps trim-matched sold-90d comps are available (what buyers actually paid); the active-listing quartile distribution is the fallback when sold data is thin.
10
11Three workflows map to distinct appraiser intents:
12
13- **W1 — Price-Check Single VIN** — "is this asking price defensible?" / "what's the market on this VIN?" (reference workflow; every anchor, filter, and render rule lives here)
14- **W2 — Trade-In VIN Price History** — "what's the history on this trade?" (US-only) — surface the VIN's listing trajectory + dealer-hop / sharp-drop / decertified red flags; pagination-gap aware; optional dual-channel ML fair-value when the appraiser supplies current odometer
15- **W3 — Market Price Distribution** — "what does the market look like for this model?" (US canonical; UK analogue in references/country-uk.md) — surface model-or-trim-level price/mileage/DOM distribution + cheapest 8 + most-expensive 5 listings + by-channel split (franchise vs independent) + state-level sold velocity baseline. No subject vehicle; no anchor band.
16
17This skill is **agent-driven** — there are no Python scripts. Every parsing step, every envelope unwrap, every comp-merge, every quartile / percentile / mileage-advantage calculation is performed by the model in-prompt following the contracts in the per-workflow references. The contracts are tight on purpose: defensibility against dispute requires that every rendered number is traceable to its source response, never to hand-fabricated values.

19## Before you start
20
211. **Load the profile.** Read marketcheck-profile.md (project memory file). Parse the YAML frontmatter for the structured fields, then parse the JSON body for the canonical values. Per references/profile-loading.md, the appraiser plugin's profile carries: location.{country, zip, state}, specialization (optional), default_radius_miles (default 75), minimum_comps (default 6), preferences.default_inventory_type (when present). If the profile file does not exist, halt: *"I don't see your appraiser profile. Run /onboarding to set up your profile, or supply ZIP + country inline for this run."*
22
232. **Confirm the profile.** First user-facing line is always: Using profile: <name-if-present-else-appraiser>, <ZIP or postcode>, <country>.
24
253. **Branch on country.**

Why you can read it

Nothing in a skill executes. The client loads the text and the model follows it, so a skill can be audited the way a runbook is — by reading it.

What it costs in context

Skills are not billed by the call. They are paid for in context: every token the instructions occupy is a token your code, your diff and your conversation cannot use. Here is what this one takes and when it takes it.

34.5k tokens, estimated from the bundle at four bytes to the token, held for the rest of the session once it triggers. Heavy. Teams tend to install this one per project rather than globally, and load it only when the job comes up.

Servers bill, skills cost

A server charges by the month. A skill charges once per session, in context, and then keeps charging it for as long as the session lives.

Before and after

The same question, put to the same model twice: once as it comes, and once with these instructions loaded.

No worked example has been published for this skill yet.

The procedure it runs

The procedure has not been set out here step by step. It is in the body of its SKILL.md: the start of it is shown above, and the whole file comes with the install.

Prose, not code

These steps are written for a model to follow, not executed by a runtime. It can still be told to skip one, and it will say so when it does.

Servers it uses

None. This skill calls no MCP servers at all.

Everything it needs is in the instructions, so it works in a project with nothing connected — the model reads the file and changes how it works with what it can already reach.

Its SKILL.md does not declare which tools it asks the agent for, so what it touches is whatever the instructions themselves ask for — read them before you install it.

What it asks for
Writes filesnot declared
Network accessnot declared

This SKILL.md carries no allowed-tools line, so neither is declared. A skill grants no permissions of its own — it can only ask for tools your client already has.

What it will not do

Every skill is narrow, and the useful ones say where they stop. These are the jobs this one is the wrong tool for.

What this skill is not for has not been published here. Nothing is implied by that: it is a section the author has not filled in.

What is in the bundle

11 files, 138.2 kB on disk. A bundle is text throughout: the instructions the model reads, plus the templates it fills in.

  • SKILL.md18.9 kB
  • assets/output-template.md22.1 kB
  • references/country-uk.md7.0 kB
  • references/cpo.md9.5 kB
  • references/facet-discovery.md5.8 kB
  • references/profile-loading.md6.8 kB
  • references/sold-summary-safety.md9.2 kB
  • references/truncation-recovery.md8.4 kB
  • references/w1-price-check.md24.7 kB
  • references/w2-trade-in-history.md14.1 kB
  • references/w3-market-distribution.md11.7 kB
What is not in it

No dependencies and nothing executable: a skill is text the agent reads, so the bundle is 11 files you can review in full before installing.

Install

Installing copies the bundle into your project. Nothing runs at install time — the files sit on disk until the model reads them.

Windows PowerShell says 'running scripts is disabled on this system'? Run Set-ExecutionPolicy -Scope CurrentUser RemoteSigned once, or type npx.cmd instead of npx (codex.cmd, gemini.cmd, grok.cmd likewise). PowerShell 7 needs neither. Writes to .claude/skills/competitive-pricer-market-price-context-for-appra/ in the current project. For every project instead, run mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && t=$(mktemp -d) && curl -fsSL -o "$t/bundle.tar.gz" https://mcprush.com/api/skills/competitive-pricer-market-price-context-for-appra/bundle.tar.gz && tar -xzf "$t/bundle.tar.gz" -C "$t" && [ -d "$t/competitive-pricer-market-price-context-for-appra" ] && { [ ! -e ~/.claude/skills/competitive-pricer-market-price-context-for-appra ] || { mv ~/.claude/skills/competitive-pricer-market-price-context-for-appra "$t/.previous" && echo "Previous copy moved to $t/.previous"; }; } && mv "$t/competitive-pricer-market-price-context-for-appra" ~/.claude/skills/ && echo "Installed ~/.claude/skills/competitive-pricer-market-price-context-for-appra" (macOS, Linux) — or add --global to the npx line. The curl line replaces .claude/skills/competitive-pricer-market-price-context-for-appra/ only after the download succeeds, so files left there by another skill of the same name, or by an older release, do not mix in. A copy already there is moved aside, not deleted, and the line prints where. It appears as competitive-pricer in Gemini CLI, Codex, Copilot and Grok (its own name); Claude Code lists it by the folder name, competitive-pricer-market-price-context-for-appra.

Which clients pick it up on their own

A skill is a folder of text. Most of these read a skills folder and pick it up without being told; the rest take the same folder another way — an upload in the app, a parameter on an API call — and then choose it by its description just the same.

Versions

v0.2.0 is what is on the shelf; no release here carries a date. Instructions change more often than APIs do — a skill can be rewritten entirely without anything it depends on moving.

v0.2.0
  • No earlier releases have been published to the marketplace.
Pinning

The install command always fetches the release that is current the day you run it — v0.2.0 today — and cannot ask for an earlier one. The copy on your disk does not change until you run it again.
